Validation rule management

Define a rule once; see everything that depends on it.

What it is

A Validation Master is a named, reusable rule: a predefined rule, a regex pattern, min/max, length or a date rule, checked for compatibility with an input type. You assign rules to DB columns and API request fields, and services can inherit a Validation Master directly.

Why it matters

A rule duplicated in several services drifts. A shared rule means a tightened pattern is visible to everything that uses it before it takes effect.

What is governed

  • Changing a rule's definition: staged on a branch. After merge, columns that use it notify their inheritors, and services that inherit the rule directly get a validation decision (approve re-syncs the copy, reject diverges).
  • Assigning or changing the rule on a column.
  • Not governed: name and description edits.

Bulk import and export

The Validation Master page can export rules as JSON and import the same shape, matching by name and creating or updating one at a time.

Limitations

  • OneEnv stores and shows the rule; it does not enforce it inside your services.
  • Tightened or added rules are flagged as breaking in impact scoring.
